What the next Cleveland mayor should do to help area's tech ...
CLEVELAND, Ohio - With the upcoming primary and general elections, in the last column I outlined some issues the next Cleveland mayor must implement or confront to foster an environment for growth and prosperity. Michael C. DeAloiaCourtesy photo  This week, I outline a few more must-haves for the city's growing and nationally influential tech industry, such as the next mayor working with the existing tech industry and raising significant capital to reinvest into the needs of Cleveland. RNC was financial success, excellent PR for Cleveland
Photo by Getty Images So, the hosting of the Republican National Convention was a success. Two studies commissioned by the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee, the local entity created to put on the convention that ran from July 18-21 last year, came to pretty much that same conclusion in reports released last week. The community got back more than double, maybe even triple, the roughly $60 million raised by the committee to get the city ready to host the more than 44,000 Republicans, media, eve..

Former Cleveland Browns coach Butch Davis makes a comeback at ...
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- At the age of 65, Butch Davis is coaching again. He's coaching at Florida International University, coaching a Division I team that hasn't had a winning season since 2011. It's been six years since Davis coached anywhere. It's been 13 years since he quit as the Cleveland Browns coach in the middle of the 2004 season. And he's still the last Browns coach to lead the team to the playoffs. That was in 2002, and he's the only Browns coach to reach the playoffs since the team retu..

Cleveland Indians' Danny Salazar leaves himself speechless with ...
CLEVELAND, Ohio - It's unclear if Danny Salazar threw so well and so hard Saturday night that he was rendered speechless by his own talent. Or that his voice just gave out on him. Whatever the reason, Salazar told the PR staff that he'd lost his voice and couldn't talk to reporters after the Indians lost to the Yankees, 2-1. Salazar, who struck out a career-high 12 batters in seven innings, was not involved in the decision. Tongue-tied or not, he figures to play a prominent role in the final tw..

Cleveland Indians' offense impressive vs. Red Sox LHP Chris Sale ...
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- From Saturday, July 29, through Saturday, Aug. 5, the Cleveland Indians went 3-4. They were 1-1 at the White Sox (won series, 2-1); 0-2 at Boston; and 2-1 vs. the Yankees (in four-game series). Fun to watch: Professional sports are not geared toward trophies for everyone. Where Major League Baseball is concerned, many players get paid millions of dollars to win, not merely to try hard and be competitive. Regardless, I won't let the result of the Indians' game Aug. 1 at Boston..

Judge: Cleveland not liable for false imprisonment
CLEVELAND (AP) - A federal judge has ruled Cleveland is not liable for the decades three men spent in prison for a 1970s slaying they didn't commit. Cleveland.com reports (http://bit.ly/2vCaUV6 ) U.S. District Judge Christopher Boyko on Friday dismissed lawsuits filed by 62-year-old Wiley Bridgeman, 59-year-old Kwame Ajamu and 60-year-old Ricky Jackson, saying they couldn't prove Cleveland police detectives fabricated reports or coerced a 12-year-old boy to lie at their trials. CLEVELAND, Ohio - On Tuesday afternoon in Herman Park, just north of Detroit Avenue in the Gordon Square Arts District, a group of kids are busily putting up a stage. The sun is high, beating down on their necks slathered with sunscreen as they pull wooden slats, links of chain and other set pieces and parts from the depths of a Penske rental truck, and set about ratcheting and pounding it into being. On a nearby basketball court, a gaggle of teens screech and cut up. But the 30 members of Clev..
