The Atlanta Braves named Brian Snitker manager on Tuesday, rewarding him for reversing the team's direction in his role as interim manager this season. The Braves finished last in the NL East but won 20 of their last 30 games under Snitker, who was named interim manager on May 17 after Fredi Gonzalez was fired. Snitker had a 59-65 record, including 37-35 after the All-Star break. Despite the strong finish under Snitker, the Braves also interviewed former managers Bud Black and Ron Washington. Like a lot of people – Ohioans, certain shoe company executives, major party donors, children of all ages – Kevin Durant appeared to be rooting for a Cleveland Cavaliers conquest in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA championship. With the Golden State Warriors well on their way toward giving up a 3-1 lead in the Finals, free agent to-be Durant had a vested interest in not looking too much like the championship-chasin’ carpetbagger he knew far too many talking heads would peg him as, should he choose to mov..>> view originalFive young golfers to keep an eye on during the 2016-17 PGA Tour season
Tiger Woods pulling out of the Safeway Open cracked open the door for a 25-year-old named Max Homa to enter the tournament this week. You might not know who Max Homa is, and you certainly don't know as much about him as you do about Tiger Woods, but he is one of a host of under-25 golfers trying to get that elusive win and lock up a PGA Tour card for the next two years. The professional golf ranks are rife with golfers like Homa. Some you have heard of. Some you need to get to know. Some b..>> view originalColin Kaepernick, starting again, ready to be judged on field
If we thought Colin Kaepernick was a lightning rod over the past six weeks because of his decision to kneel for the National Anthem and speak out in protest to social injustice, we might have just been experiencing the opening act. Kaepernick took his polarizing stance this summer as a former Super Bowl starter and a recognizable product pitchman who was relegated to backup duty by Blaine Gabbert -- a castoff seen as the 49ers best option at quarterback. Kaepernick didn't play so, for the mo..>> view originalThe Cubs changed the whole script with one exhilarating inning
SAN FRANCISCO — Game 5, couldn’t you just see it happening? Johnny Cueto starting for the Giants, against a Cubs team that he dominates. Madison Bumgarner stomping out of the bullpen, the way he did in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series. The entire city of Chicago babbling about curses, staging a massive freakout at Wrigley Field. “It would have been really tense, to put it mildly,” Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said. But there will be no Game 5. The Cubs slayed the gia..>> view originalLions sign Forsett to help short-handed backfield

The national anthem singer at the Sacramento Kings’ preseason game on Monday chose to take a knee while performing the song. Ahead of the Kings’ friendly against Israeli League team Maccabi Haifa, singer Leah Tysse went down to one knee during the final lines of the anthem in apparent solidarity with the ongoing protests of racial inequality and police brutality taking place across sports. 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began the wave of protests during the ..>> view originalAlshon Jeffery Caught in the Middle, Sammie Coates Catches On, Michael Thomas Poised to Break Out
Got a fantasy football question? I will reluctantly answer it on my Facebook page (give me likes, please!) or Twitter. Oh crap, I forgot to write an intro this week. And now it’s too late... Jay Cutler and Brian Hoyer: I’ll write more about this in my weekend column, but I can’t stop rolling my eyes at the Bears’ reported willingness to stick with Hoyer. My guess is that logic wins out in the end and Cutler, since he showed last year that there’s at least a remote chance he could be a long-term..>> view originalTebow aids ill fan after 1st Arizona Fall League game
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Tim Tebow comforted a fan who was having a seizure, praying and talking college football with the man after the former NFL quarterback played his first baseball game in the Arizona Fall League. The Phoenix Fire Department said it responded to a call about a man in his 40s having a seizure Tuesday at Camelback Ranch, the spring training home to two major league teams. Tebow stayed with the fan for 15 to 20 minutes until paramedics took him from the stadium.
